Starting in 2018, the Rindola Impresa Sociale Association in partnership with the Musei AltoVicentino network started a series of initiatives with the objective of creating a responsible wellness model centred on people’s needs. These initiatives are part of an even bigger vision for the future.
Amongst them is the project “Elderly in Action”, a museum itinerary through cultural landmarks of the Northern Vicenza Province, dedicated to the elderly and those effected by cognitive decline and dementia.
Through special guided tours and workshops, the participants – the elderly and their carers – observe objects exhibited in the museum and then discuss them. They share thoughts, memories, ideas and associations, thus giving these works of art personal meanings and a new life.
The itinerary gives a small group access to the museum. The groups are small in order to render the activity enjoyable and stimulating both for the elderly or the person affected by dementia and their carers or family members.
At the Civic Museum Palazzo Fogazzaro this translates into a stimulating itinerary, full of emotions and memories, in which life’s rituals and traditions are shared and discussed.
Starting from the observation of some works of art – amongst which are busts belonging to the Asilo Rossi, a historical nursery school, and a painting showing the rite of baptism – the participants can share their life experiences, childhood memories, rites and traditions of their time.
Culture thus becomes an effective answer to the integration of the most fragile members of society, so the museum becomes an inclusive place where everyone is welcome, age, context and personal limitations notwithstanding.
