Papermade
International Paper Artworks Biennal

DI CARTA / PAPERMADE is an international biennial exhibition of contemporary art. Since its debut in 2013, Papermade has been planned and curated by Valeria Bertesina, and organized by the Municipality of Schio. The exhibition brings together approximately 80 works of art by Italian and international artists.

Paper is the protagonist, the privileged material and medium. Every Papermade edition has a core theme, which shall inspire artists to create images and objects using paper as a means of expression. Therefore, paper becomes not only a support, but also a material which can be manipulated, handled, and transformed into a work of art: paper conveys and inspires feelings and ideas, emotions and messages. The artists who are invited to participate in the exhibition come from very different countries and have experienced various artistic paths. The result is a combination of intense personal and professional experiences which creates an environment of stimulating intercultural exchange, for both visitors and artists.

Since its debut, the exhibition has been increasingly evolving thanks to new collaborations with companies and institutions. At every edition, the exhibition organizer identifies a main guest country and gives more and more space to wide creative choices, promoting both traditional and experimental artistic practices.

Palazzo Fogazzaro -which used to be a textile factory and now houses the Schio City Museum- will be the venue for this great contemporary art exhibition. It is interesting to notice that in this very geographical area, called “Altovicentino”, some of the first incunabula were printed.

The Museum's mission, which on one hand promotes the Civic Collection and on the other gives great value to contemporary art, finds in Di carta/Papermade its true fulfillment.
