The Museum
Palazzo Fogazzaro became an exhibit space after being renovated between 2002 – 2003 and a Civic Museum in 2021.
The Museum has two main goals: it aims at exploring contemporary art, with important exhibitions, and it works on appreciating and studying the Civic Collection, with exhibitions and initiatives to delve into the work of artists from Schio and important moments in the history of our community.
In recognition of this important work, the Civic Collection has been enlarged thanks to donations by citizens and artists. The museum cherishes an important selection of works by Alfredo Ortelli, the Alessandra Panciera bequeathal, some paintings, amongst which are three oval paintings depicting virtues by Louis Dorigny, anda collection of ceramics, dating from the XVI century to today, many of which were realised with kaolin extracted by the Panciera company from the hills of Tretto. It also stores the donations of Teopisto Strolin, a passionate coin collector, and Giovanni Calendoli. The latter donated a small collection of family paintings amongst which are 18th century portraits and 19th century Italian landscapes, as well as a collection of 20th century prints and drawings tied to his passion for theatre.
The Museum also stores the Cibin Gori Fund, which includes archeological finds, historical documents dedicated to our area, as well the Unification of Italy and the Great War.
The Civic Collection is exhibited on rotation on the entrance floor, while the two upper floors are dedicated to temporary exhibitions.
In these last few years we’ve also received many donations form artists who have exhibited paintings, sculptures and artist’s books in Palazzo Fogazzaro. Amongst these, the works of Estonian artist Raul Meel are of extraordinary importance. The artist was a guest of honour at the second edition of ’’Papermade. International Paper Artworks Biennal’’, and donated a fund of 12 prints and 100 artist’s books. The donation is exhibited on rotation in the rooms dedicated to him.
The museum also hosts a series of sculptures commissioned by Alessandro Rossi for Asilo Rossi (a historical nursery school): 12 marble busts and 4 vases in Vicenza soft stone, as well as the statue of the Tessitrice (the Spinner), previously exhibited at Villino Rossi in Schio.
