Born in Schio, Gaetano Veronese (1905-1960) was an important voice in XX century Schio. He learned to model iron in his father’s blacksmith workshop in Schio and then dedicated himself to sculpture. He realised many pieces, especially in relief, but also in plaster, clay, wood and cement.

This Female Nude, in wrought iron (1930) stands witness to his talent. Using the technique he acquired in his father’s workshop and his self-taught skills, he realised this repoussage work (obtained by hitting the iron plate on its opposite side). He was a sculptor of great talent, as we can see by his technically challenging work. This complexity is especially present in his full relief and large pieces, as well as in the deep meanings he aimed to communicate.

In 1936 he took part at the XX Venice Biennale where he probably exhibited this sculpture. The previous year he had exhibited at the Quadriennale of Art in Rome.
