“A time is coming when men will go mad, and when they see someone who is not mad, they will attack him saying: You are mad, you are not like us.” (Anthony the Great)
Clinical, metaphorical, hyperbolic, imaginary, stigmatised, or praised madness: the history of mankind is also an history of folly and follies.
We live in the age of political correctness, nuclear terror, environmental disasters, techno finance, migrations, and strained ideologies: might we be affected by a madness which keeps us riding a cannonball? Or do we need a healthy dose of madness to pull ourselves out of a swamp by our own hair, like Baron Münchausen did?
We lean on the visionary madness of art and artists to shed light on this.
